What are the causes of severe heartburn?

Posted by admin

Please I want to know what causes severe heartburn during pregnancy. I am 27weeks pregnant and this heartburn is really giving me sleepless night. What can I do to stop it. Help me please!!!

There’s really only 3 steps that can stop your heartburn – they are listed in the article at the link below.

In basic terms – When stomach acid backs up into your esophagus you feel an irritation that is termed heartburn. Stomach acid is of course supposed to stay in the stomach – but when your esophageal sphincter (a muscular valve where the stomach meets the esophagus) doesn’t work properly by opening up too often or not closing tight enough, the acid can reflux into the esophagus and cause that burning feeling you get.

Saw the ep. but can’t remember what they said the best remedy was. Am at home with a little heartburn and would rather use a home remedy than go out to the store at 4 am in the snow!

milk, crackers, bread. i find the crackers and bread last a bit longer then the milk.

Does anyone know any home remedies for heartburn, while pregnant?

I am 6 months pregnant, and have horrible heartburn. Not to mentionI barely get any sleep as it is this makes me incredibly uncomfortable and unable to sleep even more. I just wanna rid the heartburn and get a little bit of sleeptime back.

Hi, there are plenty of home remedies for heartburn while you are pregnant. A lot of women suffer with heartburn when they are pregnant because the weight of the baby can push against the stomach, which forces the acid out.

Because you are pregnant it is always going to be better to go with a natural remedy for heartburn because it will be safer. There are a few things that you could try.

One of the best things that can help with heartburn is to drink ginger tea. This is not as bad as it sounds because I drank this myself when I was expecting.

Also change the way that you eat. Try to eat smaller meals, but eat more often during the day. The smaller the meal, the less acid the stomach has to to make to break up the food.

Do not eat anything for at least 3 hours before going to sleep.

Try drinking some peppermint, as this can help a lot.

Also watch your posture during the day. When you are sitting down, try to lean back a little so that your stomach is straight, this prevents the stomach from being squashed up and forcing acid out of it.

Hope that was helpful, take care. You can get a bit more information about natural home remedies for heartburn at the resource below.

I am really desperate for a heartburn remedy!! How can I change my diet and help it go away?

So I’m sick of taking tums in mass quantities all the time. I know my heartburn usually comes from drinking too much coffee, and sometimes I am more successful at restraining myself.

I don’t like taking medications like Zantac or Pepcid…I am looking for a soothing drink that would help my throat/chest.

Also, what foods should I definitely avoid to reduce acid reflux?

Hello. If you know your heartburn comes from drinking to much coffee, and you can’t control yourself,, maybe you should try switching to decaf. My grandmother used to take 1 tsp of baking soda and put it in about a half a glass of water, and she swore by it. She had a hyadal hernia and she had AR really bad. And it tastes about like an Alka Seltzer. Some things that may sooth your stomach are, pineapple, banana’s, and believe it or not a tbsp of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water with a tbsp of honey. And if I were you, I would go to the doctor and talk to him about this. I don’t mean to scare you, but when I was in my 30’s I had heart burn and acid reflux all the time. I had a massive heart attack when I was 37. And my doctors told me that heart burn is a warning sign. So just to be on the safe side,, why don’t you make an appt to go see your doctor and ask him about this. It won’t hurt and could very well save your life. Don’t take any chances. Please go get checked out. My prayers will be with you. I hope this helped.

pregnant with heartburn and natural remedies?

hi im 11 weeks pregnant and am finding it hard to eat and sleep because of heartburn. is there anything natural i can have?

Hi Tari,

I had the same problem recently so I did a little research: heartburn is caused by several different factors such as certain foods, smoking or stress. To manage it you could try some of the following:

-frequent smaller meals instead of 3 large ones
-eat slowly
-eat at least 3 hours before bedtime as your last meal
-extra pillow at night to keep head elevated
-drink luke-warm water or herbal tea after dinner
-wear looser-fitting clothes
-avoid ‘trigger’ foods such as: chocolate (I know!), sugars, onion, citrus fruits / juices, peppermint, coffee, alcohol, fried and fatty foods, mustard, vinegar, tomatoes, spicy foods, processed meats

Hope this helps and good luck with your pregnancy!

Does any body have a good natural cure for heartburn like something to eat to get rid of it?

A teraspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water usually helps – or something like Eno’s or Andrews liver salts!

What causes heartburn in this situation?

I went to a workout class (at 24Hour) last night for the first time in almost 2 years. I’m not sure what it was called, but it was an hour long and we did a lot of cardio with a step, squats with a bar and weights, and misc upperbody routines w/handweights. I expected to feel sore, but I didn’t expect heartburn. What would cause that in this situation? I’ve been eating a lot of raw vegetables (broccoli and cauliflower) as well as a raw egg in the mornings (for the past week). Have had very little ‘bad’ food. The heartburn is greatly minimized today – almost gone, but is there something I can do to prevent it next time or treat it if it comes on again after/during a workout session?

If you ate shortly before your work-out, especially with the squats, you could have ended-up forcing acid up into your esophagus.

Eat *lightly* before exercise, and try to make them "simple" foods that the body will be able to easily digest.

Additionally, raw veggies (depending on the person) can cause gas, which can cause a touch of heartburn as well. You might do yourself favour on this point by picking-up a steamer. Steamed veggies have all the nutrients of raw, and cause much fewer problems gas wise…they also sometimes taste a bit better.
